SOLO exhibition | @ BIRD ROOM | June 13-15
Bird Room presented Chiru Mondo Murage Weinstein’s first solo exhibition ‘I Swear I Come Alive in Summer.’ for a limited time as part of the gallery’s 2025 summer programming.
In ‘I Swear I Come Alive in Summer,’ Murage Weinstein unveils a collection of new works that bring the feeling of the outdoors to the gallery walls, pulsing warmth and energy. With a unique blend of acrylic and oil pastel, she creates paintings with dozens of translucent and opaque passes to sculpt movement. Think sun-kissed earth tones, golden hours, and the soft glow of sunrise–her paintings are all about capturing the emotional resonance of nature's beauty.
The physicality of Chiru's work also is a huge part of her process - her reach, gestures, and energy are all embedded in the surface of these canvases. While she began with smaller surfaces, her practice quickly demanded more space. Working on a larger scale (40x60 inches, 48x48 inches) allowed her to feel like stepping into the work itself and makes this physicality even more apparent. Her process flexes between control and spontaneity, as she builds up layers of color and texture, erasing, redirecting, and rediscovering her way to a final piece.
